5 ways to boost your metabolism
Firing up your metabolism can be quick, simple and easy.
Firing up your metabolism can be quick, simple and easy.
You might have a metabolism with the speed of a tortoise, a
cheetah or anything in between. Men tend to burn calories faster
than women, even while resting. Unfortunately for most people,
metabolism slows steadily after the age of 40.
Although you can’t control your age, gender or genetics, you can
improve your metabolism. Learn more about your “fire within” that
does the fat burning for you, so you can master your weight loss
journey.
1. Eat 5 to 6 meals a day, including breakfast
Having a small meal or a snack every 3 to 4 hours keeps your
metabolism raving, so you burn more calories throughout the
day.
2. Start your day with exercise
Working out first thing in the morning also helps you burn
calories all day long – even when you’re eating and not just
when you’re snoring away in bed.
3. Drink more water
Your body needs water to process calories. If you are
dehydrated (even the slightest bit), your metabolism may slow
down.
4. Eat your omega-3’s
Omega-3’s balance blood sugar and reduce inflammation –
important in regulating metabolism.
5. Lift weights
Not only does muscle weight more than fat, but it uses more
energy too. For example, a woman in her 30s who strength-
trains for 30 to 40 minutes twice a week for four months will
increase her resting metabolism by 100 calories a day!
