It can sometimes be frustrating to see others seemingly succeed so easily at tasks you struggle to even start!

We are all given the same 24 hours per day, and most of us, luckily, have the same ability and freedoms as each other.

So, we asked ourselves:

What makes them so different?

And, after careful deliberation, have broken down what we believe are the:


They know their ‘Why’

Knowing your why is arguably the most important aspect of setting any goal. It connects an emotion to the process, and helps to inspire you when your motivation is low.

Finding out your why can be a difficult. It requires you to be vulnerable and honest with yourself. You want to go beyond a ‘surface level’ purpose and go as deep as you can.

The Drill : Ask yourself ‘why’ 5 times in a row, to help get to your core purpose.

Example Goal: To lose 7 kilos in 10 weeks.

To be healthier.

So that I can look better, and feel stronger

  1. Why?

Because I am tired of feeling fatigued after doing everyday things.

  1. Why?

So that I can play with my 3 year old daughter.

  1. Why?

Because I want to have the self confidence to lead by example and be a strong role model for her as she grows up.

Everyone has a different reason why they set particular goals and if you find yours, you will become unstoppable.

They have a growth mindset.

Successful people have the mentality that the world is theirs for the taking.

They believe that any positive change that is going to happen will come from them and them alone.

Effort, grit and perseverance are their ingredients to success.

They are not a victim to their circumstances. Instead, they wear their failures and obstacles with pride – knowing that it will only make them stronger and more prepared for harder obstacles to come.

They value the journey, not the destination.

Although setting grandiose goals is valuable, often, setting the bar for success too far out of reach in the beginning is asking for failure.

At the start of your journey, getting small wins is very important. Rewarding yourself simply for taking action is an incredible way to build momentum and to help boost your morale!

Instead of focusing how much you have yet to achieving, work on being 1% better than the day before.

Do just one thing extra per day that will help you get to where you want to be.

Small incremental actions accumulate to massive change over time.

Consistency is key.

They build habits that help to continue momentum.

Think about how many things you do every day on autopilot.

Habits like brushing your teeth, showering, eating or checking your phone are built by repetition and are all learned behaviours.

The good thing about habits is that you can hard wire them into your lifestyle and all your need to do is choose which ones you want and implement them.

Habits can either destroy you and build you.

You can by compulsively addicted to social media through the power of habit but you can also have the habit of going to the gym every morning at 6.30am.

Statistics show that it takes 21 days to build a habit.

Once this habit is instilled, it takes more mental energy to decide to not do the task than it does to continue the learned behaviour.

Challenge: Pick one of the tasks below and do it for 21 days.

  1. At least 10 minutes of exercise.
  2. Wake up to your first alarm.
  3. Make your bed.
  4. Write a to-do list every morning.
  5. Drink a glass of water as soon as you wake up.
  6. Do 1 thing that makes you uncomfortable.
  7. Cold shower in the morning.
  8. No soft drink, fast food or processed food.
  9. Read 10 pages.
  10. Meditate for 5 minutes.

They surround themselves with people who emulate the success they desire.

If you constantly see your friends setting, reaching and achieving their goals – you will subconsciously have the burning desire to live up to their standard of behaviour.

Conversely, if you have a group of friends that are comfortable with their lifestyle and have no desire to improve (there is nothing wrong with this, do what makes you happy), then you will also eventually portray similar traits in your lifestyle.
