Sleep is like Rob Schneider in an Adam Sandler movie. Most people tend to forget about it, but have a pleasant surprise when it shows up! Although often discarded, sleep can be the key to your weight loss!
NO MORE LATE NIGHT BINGES – Unless you’re a hardcore sleepwalker, you need to be awake to eat. Eating late at night also means your body is more likely to store the food as fat because you’re less able to burn it off when you’re asleep or just lounging on the couch. If you’re asleep, you don’t even THINK about those midnight snacks!
STOPS THE CRAVINGS – Having a good night’s sleep helps keep your will power strong! If you don’t get much sleep, the next day you’re WAY more likely to crave naughty foods, like cakes and other sugary treats. *Puts choc chip cookie down discretely and wipes crumbs off keyboard*. Don’t make your diet harder than it needs to be. Get the right amount of sleep and avoid that lunch time run to the bakery!
BURN BABY – If you’re tired, you actually burn fewer calories than if your body is well rested. Your mind functions better when you’ve had a good night’s sleep and your body’s the same. Instead of working harder, work smarter! Get a good sleep AND a killer workout in!
SHOPAHOLIC – If you didn’t already know, it’s a downright AWFUL idea to go food shopping when you’re hungry. Going when you’re tired can have the same results! You pick up easier options, which are by definition, not always the most nutritious or healthy!
FOCUS – Not the movie with Will Smith and Margot Robbie, but the thing your brain does so you pay attention! The less sleep you get, the more your brains turn to mush. Not literally. But, when you’ve had a rough night’s sleep, you find that by 3 pm your brain’s checked out for the day. Avoid this and impress your boss with your improved productivity, by going to bed on time!
NO PHONES ALLOWED – Screens are part of our everyday life now – you’re a bit of a social pariah if you aren’t constantly checking your phone, Facebook or Twitter or watching some TV show, (how EPIC was GOT?!). This screen time isn’t good for our brains! If you watch TV or are on your phone right before you go to bed, it takes you longer to catch those vital z’s. That’s because your brain is still buzzing and takes a while to register that it’s time to go to sleep! Start your day the right way, by getting the sleep your body needs to function at its best.
